Downtown Hilo has over 100 restaurants and food outlets within a ten-block radius. Most locals think there's only 30 to 40, but the Big Island's 2 million annual visitors know better.

Hilo is a Major Culinary Center deserving of official recognition through a Mayor Proclamation of 1st Friday of month Event celebrating our vibrant food scene and cultural heritage.

Restaurant Row Hilo: Proclamation Request

Whereas:

The Downtown Hilo area contains over one hundred (100) restaurants and food outlets within a ten-block radius;
The Island of Hawaiʻi receives approximately two million (2,000,000) visitors annually, the majority of whom travel through Hilo;
Both residents and visitors should be made aware that Hilo is a major culinary center within the State of Hawaiʻi;
Hilo has access to one of the largest assortments of tropical produce in the islands, with direct, frequent access to local farmers markets and fresh, ripe agricultural products;
The Hilo community supports a vibrant cultural scene, with over two hundred (200+) live performances each month that complement and enhance the local dining experience;
The culinary and cultural assets of Hilo are underrepresented and deserve proper statewide marketing and recognition;

Therefore, be it resolved that:

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Honorable Mayor of Hawaiʻi County proclaim "Restaurant Row Hilo" as a monthly event, to be held on the First Friday of each month, in order to:

Officially recognize and promote Hilo as a leading culinary destination in Hawaiʻi;
Encourage economic growth and visibility for local restaurants and food enterprises;
Provide resources and coordinated support for the promotion and scaling of participating establishments; and
Foster an ongoing collaboration between the County, local businesses, farmers, and cultural organizations in celebrating Hilo's culinary excellence.

Farmer's Markets boom as the Retail Apocalypse closes tens of thousands of stores across USA. Farmer's Restaurants are the retail Boutiques of local farmers Premium Foods. The Restaurant and Menu promotes the Artisan Farmer and Curator versus the food.
